North America

This week in Geography we moved onto North America, this is week 3 I think in the trail guide. We located North America on the map, then we identified the countries of north America, I used some print outs from the Montessori Printshop. We then corrected identified the largest country and looked at some of the geographical facts relating to the region as per the guides instructions. As Canada is the largest region we will study that first.  We then did some copy work by writing these facts up onto note booking paper. I then read the first chapter of the 'eskimo twins' ala CM, you can find these stories free online here:

ESKIMO TWINS

Next up I introduced the craft task, I used the Geography through art book here and decided to make scrimshaw. I explained what scrimshaw is and we looked at some online then we drew our designs on paper

Finally we carved our design into the clay that I had already rolled out into whale tooth shapes (sort of).

When they were dry we then used some really watery black paint to highlight the carved sections of the dried clay. I then wiped over the clay with a wet brush to even out the colour.

Rome Kicks out her Kings

This week in World History we read chapter   from CHOW. We did our narration as per usual (see narration post here) then did some copy work. Nuh was definitely not practising perfect execution today, I will have to work on that with him. I think he finds writing with the Beryl handwriting pens difficult. His writing is definitely neater when he is using a pen with a thicker nib.

After the copy work he used some stickers that we have of Romans on his note booking page.

The craft activity this week was baking roman numeral cakes, not exactly reflective of the chapter however we have made many axes, swords, Shields etc over the past year or two, so I wanted some thing different.
