Meet the vincents!

Today I had my first glimpse of what Montessori can be like.  This morning when school started Nuh asked if he could bring his dragon Vincent Freddy to school. I said ok, and we proceeded to have circle time with Vincent Freddy, who participated fully in walking on the line and the silence game.

Nuh then asked me how to spell camera, so we got the moveable alphabet off of the shelf and the toy camera. Nuh quickly told me that he would spell it himself with Vincent Freddy. Gosh I was so excited by this development, he sounded out the word and spelled it almost right. Woo Hoo!!! He then asked for the object box 'a' and he and VF spelled out all of the words independantly. I was just floating around the room at this point trying not to interfere, during this time 'the zoo' was engaging in her own activity, which was trashing the room.

When he had finished all of the words he then asked if he could bring the other Vincents ( All of his dinosaurs are called Vincent and have different middle names, I literally have no idea where this came from) so we were quickly joined by Vincent ( he was the first), and Vincent Growly.  I then directed him towards the number drawers, adn asked him if he wanted to do some sums. He agreed and he and the dinosaurs independantly  completed the 'making 10' work.

I feel absolutely elated, we seem to be montessoring.....  I hope tomorrow goes as well.
